Fantastic Planet Books is a bookstore specializing in Science Fiction, Fantasy, Horror and Weird Fiction. We buy, stock and sell a diverse range of new, used and collectible books to satisfy and fulfill the reading needs of the SciFi community in the Seattle area and the online world. Fantastic Planet Books is located in scenic and lovely Seattle, possibly the science fiction capital of the world. In Seattle, the City of the Future is Truly Here Today. Don't believe us? Come ride our sky-train past the toweringly strange and appealingly ugly Space Needle, or visit the shiny new Science Fiction Museum, or pay a call to the Greenwood Space Travel Supply Company. Whether it is something in the municipal water supply, or perhaps just the lack of sunlight three-fourths of the year, something about our fair city encourages the growth of sci-fi fans. We are three longtime booksellers, banded together to bring quality science fiction, fantasy, horror, weird fiction, new reviews, art, and more to the masses. Steve Winter has been a bookseller for 15 years and counting--at the Elliott Bay Book Company for nearly a decade and currently at Third Place Books for the last year. He has worn many different hats over that time, the most exciting being the Science Fiction buyer and section head at Elliott Bay. During that time he has met many great people in the Science Fiction community, from authors and editors to avid readers and fellow booksellers. Steve believes that SF & F is a very powerful and pertinent literary form. It not only provides a needed escape from the every day, but it also has the ability to reflect and comment on very important issues in today's culture and society. He also thinks it's pretty darn cool too. Vladimir Verano has been a bookseller for over 16 years. In that time his childhood love for Sf & F crystallized into intellectual pursuit and appreciation of the genres. He worked for the Elliott Bay Book Company for over a decade, in that time he and Steve Winter turned the Science Fiction & Fantasy section into a highly profitable enterprise, and helped to bring respect and awareness to the genre's many qualities. He is also an artist, graphic designer, and editor of Prescience, a literary zine specializing in (but not limited to) Science Fiction & Fantasy. Vladimir Verano believes that the era of genre distinctions is at an end, and is sure that this opinion will get him into trouble one day. Sarah Keliher has been a bookseller for almost 20 years. Her love of Science Fiction and Fantasy coalesced around the same time as her involvement in the used book trade flourished, where she developed a love of the mongrel and obscure works that passed through her hands. Many out-of-print treasures of the genre have provided Sarah with surprising joy and left her befuddled as to their scarcity. Sarah, Steve and Vladimir have come to agree that any Science Fiction and Fantasy bookstore should not only provide what is available to the consumer, but should act in stewardship of these oft-forgotten works, searching them out and bringing them to a place where the adage "To every reader, her book; Every book, its reader," applies in a practical sense. In this way Fantastic Planet Books provides the widest selection of books for its readers.
Sarah's interests range across the possible spectrum of knowledge, and she is always questing for, and
encouraging, new ideas and ways of thinking. She does not suffer fools (except for Steve and Vladimir),
and can on occasion be found trawling the web for signs of intelligent life.
